Statelessness
Overview
STATELESSNESS is a massive problem that affects an estimated 15 million people worldwide. It is the single greatest risk factor to being trafficked or otherwise exploited. People who are driven by poverty to cross national borders without legal papers will almost surely be exploited, whether they are trafficked or abused on the job. They and their children will be denied basic rights such as education, healthcare and access to justice. Statelessness and its ramifications condemn families to a never-ending cycle of poverty.
Poverty and statelessness are the two biggest risk factors for a person to be trafficked or otherwise exploited. This module focuses on statelessness, particularly among ethnic minorities in Thailand.
