Sex Tourism

Overview

SEX TOURISM is part of the booming tourism industry.  It fuels sex work, the spread of sexually transmitted infections, human trafficking, child sexual abuse and the pornography industry.  It is also an integral part of the economy of some Southeast Asian countries, and is tacitly supported by governments and cultural factors.  Sex tourism is promoted by web-based companies, web sites and blogs, travel agencies, tour guides, taxi and tuk-tuk drivers, hotel and guest house concierges.  This module explores sex tourism and examines research on sex tourists in Southeast Asia through lecture, case studies and discussion, and research-oriented visits to sex outlets in Thailand.
