Pedophiles

Overview

PEDOPHILES who prey on Asian children may be local nationals, expatriate residents or child sex tourists.  Regardless of their origin, pedophiles generally develop a sophisticated network of information, unfortunately aided by the internet, which makes it particularly easy for them to find vulnerable children. The culture of Southeast Asia leaves families particularly vulnerable to exploitation by pedophiles.  The status of the pedophile, lack of police training and police corruption, archaic rules of evidence and fear of retribution often prevent parents from reporting suspected abuse by a pedophile.  To complicate reporting issues, many victims of pedophiles are stateless children or street children.  This module explores this complicated issue through lecture, documentary video, case studies and practical exercise.
