Domestic Violence in SE Asia
Overview
VIOLENCE against women by an intimate partner is a major problem that exists in all countries in the world. Domestic violence in particular is not only common in Southeast Asia but is considered “normal” by some cultures. Women are more at risk of experiencing violence in intimate relationships than anywhere else, making them powerless to protect themselves from health risks such as HIV. This module explores the complex factors that work against battered women and serve to perpetuate the problem in Southeast Asian societies.
