Child Labor
Overview
Sixty percent of all CHILD LABOR occurs in South and Southeast Asia. Child labor deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and is ultimately harmful to their physical and mental development. Child labor prevents children from obtaining an education, and a lack of education continues the cycle of poverty for the child and family and limits the growth and development of the society in which the child lives. Child labor and the acceptability of child labor enables child trafficking to continue. In Southeast Asia, it is often difficult to differentiate between child labor and simple child work. This module helps the learner to understand the difference, and to develop interventions to assist families and communities.
