HIV
Overview
There are very few developing countries in the world where public policy has been effective in preventing the spread of HIV on a national scale, but Thailand is an exception. A massive program to control HIV has reduced visits to commercial sex workers, raised condom usage, and achieved substantial reductions in new HIV infections. But Thailand is also experiencing an increase in tuberculosis and hepatitis, and factors such as an increase in risky sexual behavior have led to concerns that Thailand could face a resurgence of HIV and AIDS in coming years.
This module provides basic HIV education as well as preventive information. Thailand is presented as a model of both successes and potential failures.
